Hmmm, rejection as a goal. Something to ponder.

May 1, 2016. A day where I had nothing that had to be done.

I have not posted specifically about songwriting or recording since last September. That was the beginning of my creativity crossroads

In March 2016, Tara Leaver ran an experiment called ExpressItMonth2016 with a concept to explore feelings and emotions through art, with a daily quote and themed e-mail as a sort of guidepost.

Realistically looking at resource limitations and accomplishments to date to set priorities going forward.

Prior to 2008 I was not creative in the sense of making art. In 2008 I wanted to learn to play guitar. I spent an hour or two or three a day learning to play the songs I loved, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, U2, The Who, The Kinks, Rodney Crowell, Paul Simon, George Harrison. I learned the strumming patterns, the chords.

In 2009 I started writing songs and performing covers at open mics.

In 2010 I started playing my own songs at open mics and singer-siongwriter nights.

In 2011 I entered my first songwriting contest.

In 2012 I started participating in a local music organization, online songwriting competitions, painting and doing yoga.

In 2013 I started taking painting classes.

In 2014 I started writing a book.

In 2015 I was spreading my creative time thinner and thinner, not really improving as much as I hoped.

After SummerSongs East, I evaluated all I could do in music, art and writing, and working with my creativity coach, Lauren Lapointe, I narrowed my goal focus to recording three song EP's  .

This post is a summary of my week at Summersongs East.....

Slogging. Wading through a muddy bog between shores. I can't go back. The other side seems so far away. That is where I am

April is National Poetry Writing Month. The last three years I have participated in the poetry writing challenge to varying degrees. I told myself that this year I did not have time to write as much for this. That book revisions and CD recording come first. However, in between all of that, I hope to post the writing that spills out.

This month I am participating in an online course centered around abstract drawing and painting with Tara Leaver called Abstractify.
